Parvati’s skin had now acquired a golden colour. Due to this change she came to be known as Gauri, the Goddess with a golden skin. She bowed to Lord Brahma who gave her his blessings.
The dark skin that the Goddess had cast off then came together and a beautiful but terrifying form came to life. This was Goddess Kali, the dark and beautiful supreme power, the protector of the gods. Lord Brahma blessed Goddess Kali and provided her with several weapons. He also gave her a lion as her mount.
Whenever evil would rear its head, Goddess Parvati would take on the form of Goddess Kali and protect the good and the virtuous.
